Safety Warning
Neodymium magnets are brittle, super strong, easily shattered and broken, Here are some tips that will help when working with neodymium magnets: |
1. Wear eye protection and gloves when working with magnets if necessary. |
2. Slide the magnets rather than pulling off the stack. |
3. Keep away magnets from kids in case accident happens. |
4. Keep away magnets from objects that might cause damage like smartphone, GPS, pacemaker or other electronic devices. |
5. Do not put magnets in high temperature environment, magnets will demagnetize while they are over heated. |
6. Magnets can rust and get scratched because magnets contain iron and mostly are nickel plated. |

Motor magnets are permanent magnets applied in electric motors, utilizing the principle of repulsion between like poles and attraction between opposite poles to generate power. The basic principle of an electric motor involves the interaction between an electromagnet and a permanent magnet, converting electrical energy into kinetic energy. Electric motor magnets play the role of these permanent magnets in this process.
Electric motor magnets come in various materials, including neodymium iron boron magnets, samarium cobalt magnets, ferrite magnets, and others. Now, let’s discuss the advantages and disadvantages of these different types of magnets:
In conclusion, the choice of material for electric motor magnets depends on the specific requirements. Typically, neodymium magnets and samarium cobalt magnets are commonly used in high-speed motors, while ferrite magnets are frequently employed in low-speed motors. If you are pursuing high performance and have a sufficient budget, both neodymium and samarium cobalt magnets fall within the available options. For those seeking cost-effectiveness, ferrite magnets and lower-grade neodymium magnets are also viable choices. Currently, the most widely used electric motor magnet in production environments is neodymium magnet.
Electric motor magnets come in various shapes, including arc-shaped, square, and cylindrical magnets with holes. Among these, arc-shaped magnets and magnets with holes are often used for rotors or stators, while square magnets are commonly employed on the tracks of linear motors.
Common coatings for neodymium magnets include zinc, nickel-copper-nickel, and epoxy. When selecting a coating for electric motor magnets, the initial consideration should be the intended usage environment for the magnets. Will the motor operate in a dry or relatively humid environment? If the motor’s working environment is not prone to magnet corrosion, both zinc and nickel coatings can be viable options. However, in more humid environments, it’s advisable to opt for coatings like epoxy, which offer higher resistance to salt spray corrosion.
The adhesive commonly used to secure neodymium magnets in electric motors is acrylic structural adhesive. After electroplating, the surface coating of neodymium magnets becomes smoother than the original material. At this point, regular adhesive is unable to effectively bond the magnet to the stator or rotor. We recommend the following 5 best acrylic adhesive brands:
When buying adhesive for glueing motor magnets, please ensure that it is acrylic adhesive, and it’s advisable to contact the manufacturer’s customer service before making a purchase.
Uwandy can produce magnets in various sizes. Typically, for magnetization along the thickness direction, the thickness should not exceed 50mm, as exceeding this limit can make it challenging to change the magnetization direction between the north and south poles at the magnet’s center. If you need square magnets, the length and width of the magnet generally should not exceed 100mm. Please send us your drawings to [email protected] for evaluation, and we will assess whether we can manufacture the size you require and provide you with a quotation.
Shapes | Diameter | Thickness
Disc/Rod Magnet | 4-100 mm | 1-50 mm
Shapes | Length | Width | Height
Rectangular/Block Magnet | 1-100 mm | 1-100 mm | 1-50 mm |
The magnetization direction for arc magnets is typically the vertical direction at the midpoint of the curved surface. Magnetizing arc magnets does not require custom magnetizer and fixtures. In contrast, the magnetization direction for rod magnets with thru hole involves axial multipole and radial ring magnetization, which requires the customization of corresponding magnetizer and fixture. The cost for mangetizer and fixture is usually above $2,000, making it relatively expensive. Therefore, before proceeding with a prototype, it’s advisable to provide the quantity for bulk orders, the annual demand, and inquire about the pricing for bulk orders.
